Mr. Theauthor Fikes, Sr. was born in Dallas County, Alabama to the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Mary Lamar. Four sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. He later moved to Birmingham where he joined the Twenty - Third Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C. J. McNear where he served in the Senior Usher Ministry until his health began to fail.
Mr. Fikes was united in matrimony to the late Mrs. Ora Bell Nelson for over forty years. She also preceded him in death in October 2005. He retired from US Steel Corporation Local Union #559 in Fairfield. . He departed his life Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
He leaves to cherish his memories seven sons: Theauthor Jr. and Frank of Brooklyn, New York & Andrea (LaSonja), Antonio Sr. (Evelyn), Christopher (Felecia) of Birmingham, Michael of Fort Hood, Texas, and Lonnie of Saginaw, Michigan; Three daughters: Pamela, Inetta (Ronald), and Wanda (Jerome) of Winter Gardens, Florida and Spencer (Joyce) of Orlanda Florida; Thirty - one grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren; A special loving, devoted and caring friend, Ms. Louise Battle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family.
Service of memory will be Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Twenty - Third Street Baptist Church Ensley (2335 Ave O Ensley 35218) with burial in George Washington Carver Memorial Cemetery. He will lie in repose on Friday from 12 noon until 7:00 PM at Westside Funeral Chapel Fairfield..
