Shelton Haynes Griffith was born on October 12, 1947 in Prentiss, Mississippi to Lester and Ruthie Lee Anderson Griffith. He was educated in the Mississippi Public School System and in the late sixties, Shelton relocated to Shelby County Alabama. He became a member of New Mount Moriah Missionary Church Calera where he served faithfully as a Trustee, member of the Male Chorus and in the Deacon Ministry. He began working at Specification Rubber in Alabaster until 1976 when he became a member of the Shelby County Sheriff Department serving the citizens of Shelby County with distinction and honor for 34 years. Shelton was a pillar in the community and was loved by many. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police, RSVP Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and Calera Youth Football Coach for 20 years. Funeral Service will be saturday (24th) 1:00 PM at his beloved New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Calera with Pastor Michael Jones officiating and interment in Shelby Memory Gardens. His loving survivors are: devoted wife; Bernice Crisp Griffith, sons; Gary (Pam) Griffith and Darryl (Candice) Griffith, brothers and sisters; Jerry (Veta) Griffith, Tony (Zonzie) McLaurin, Donald (Kabrina) Burkett, Jr., E. Todd (Gwendolyn) Burkett, Judy (Jesse) Thompson, JoAnn (Daniel) Coker, and Janice Cross, Step Mother; Genorla Griffith, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His remains will lie in repose on Friday from noon until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Westside Funeral Home Calera Directing.
