Korey Kattrell Cunningham was born on May 17, 1995 in Homewood, Alabama, to Kelvin and Lula Kathryn Cunningham. He was educated in the Shelby County School System and would graduate from Montevallo High School in 2013. Upon graduating, Korey would attend the University of Cincinnati where he played football as an offensive tackle. In 2017 he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education with a concentration in Exercise Fitness. Korey was awarded the Bearcats’ Jim Kelly Spirit Award and the Iron Bearcat Award while in Cincinnati. In 2018 he was drafted to the NFL by the Arizona Cardinals where he played for one season before joining the New England Patriots in 2019. He would later join the New York Giants and played through the 2022 season. Korey had a huge heart and to know him was to love him. He would live up to his nickname “Big Country” because he was an avid hunter, fisherman and lover of the great outdoors. He loved to admire the beauty and stillness of “God’s creation” as he so often referenced. A Celebration of his Life will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024, 3:00 PM at Thomas Waverly Palmer Hall Auditorium (842 North Boundary Street, 35115) with Pastor James Taylor, Officiating. His loving survivors are: loving parents, Kirk and Kathy Cunningham; siblings, Kirstan (Allie), and Kayla; one nephew, two nieces; grandparents, James Sr. and Sarah North; one aunt, four uncles; other relatives and friends. He will lie in repose on Saturday (May 4) from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Westside Funeral Home, Calera. Professional Care and Arrangements Entrusted to Westside Funeral Home Calera.
