He was a native of Autauga County, Alabama, veteran of the Marine Corps, and longtime resident of Palmetto, Florida.

Service of memory will be Friday at 11:00 AM at the Saint Paul Missonary Baptist Church Jemison, Alabama with interment in Alabama National Cemetery.  His loving survivors are: devoted sons; Edward (Lisa) Smith, Anthony (Sharee) Franklin, and Erwin (Yolanda) Franklin, siblings; Dereke Franklin, Flora (James E) Oliver, Lois (James B) Williams, and Debra (George) Brown, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  The remains will lie in repose on Thursday from 1:00 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.  Westside Funereal Home Calera Directing.
