Annie Bell (Ninnie) Phillips Jones was born in Marion, Alabama to the late Fred and Mary Phillips. She was the youngest of five children with one brother, Mr. Louis Phillips (deceased), and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Lou Williams (deceased), Ms. Emma Lou Phillips (deceased) and Mrs. Janie Bell (Jessie) Feggins of Birmingham, AL. After the family moved to Overton, Alabama she attended Rosedale and Irondale Elementary Schools and attended Moton High School in Leeds, Alabama. Annie Bell Phillips was joined in marriage to Willie Lee Jones for 28 years and to this union six daughters were raised.
She accepted and confessed Christ and was baptized after receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost at the Freewill Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Andrew Jones, Sr. Upon his death, she continued to serve under Elder Gerry L. Turner, Sr. before joining Christ's Ministries in 2005 where she served faithfully, as the Church Mother, until God completed the work on her new home. Mother Jones worked for many years in retail sales with Jaffe Dry Goods and Beauty Mark. Although she had six girls, she was mother to so many more sons and daughters just by imparting her wisdom, knowledge, and compassion. After her retirement she decided to make her presence known throughout the Riley community by walking 10 or more blocks 3 times a week. Everybody, young and old, knew who she was and they all gave her the respect she deserved. Known best for her desserts (caramel cake, sweet potato pies, strawberry cake, peanut brittle, she was an excellent all around cook.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy six daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn (Hue) Prevo, Mrs. Angela (Reginald) Melton, Ms. Pamela Thompson, Ms. Cathy Jones, Mrs. Laronda (Eric) Lewis and Ms. Jolanda Cotton; eleven grandchildren (5 boys and 6 girls); and 30 great grandchildren; her special niece/sister, sounding board and phone partner Mrs. Susan Nolen and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-laws, cousins and friends.
